Detmold, the seat of the Lippish
principality, is over 700 years old, and its rich
past is reflected wherever your gaze falls. Today
the city is the district capital, a centre for education, music and local
administration. In the
heart of the Old Town stand the Renaissance
moated castle of the earls and princes of Lippe;
until 1918 the regents resided here. The valuable
collections in its rooms are well worth viewing.
